Arrival Day: Kilimanjaro Airport to Moshi

Day 1: Umbwe Gate to Umbwe Cave Camp
The trek begins with a drive to the Umbwe Gate, where you will complete registration formalities. The trail ascends steeply through the rainforest, with lush vegetation and towering trees. After a challenging hike, you will reach Umbwe Cave Camp at 2,850 meters (9,350 feet) for your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Umbwe Cave Camp to Barranco Camp
On the second day, the trail becomes steeper as you leave the rainforest and enter the moorland zone. The landscape opens up, offering stunning views of Kibo Peak. After a 6-7 hour hike, you will arrive at Barranco Camp, situated at 3,960 meters (12,992 feet), where you will rest and acclimatize.
Day 3: Barranco Camp to Karanga Camp
Day three involves climbing the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding scramble that offers spectacular views from the top. The trail then descends into the Karanga Valley before reaching Karanga Camp at 4,035 meters (13,238 feet). This camp provides a great spot to rest and acclimatize before the next day’s ascent.
Day 4: Karanga Camp to Barafu Camp
The fourth day takes you through a high alpine desert to Barafu Camp at 4,640 meters (15,223 feet). The trail is relatively steep, but the panoramic views of the mountain make it worthwhile. Upon arrival at Barafu Camp, you will rest and prepare for the midnight summit attempt.
Day 5: Barafu Camp to Summit to Mweka Camp
The summit day begins around midnight. You will ascend through the dark, aiming to reach Stella Point at sunrise. From there, the final push to Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet) is challenging but incredibly rewarding. After celebrating at the summit, you will descend to Barafu Camp for a short rest before continuing down to Mweka Camp at 3,110 meters (10,204 feet).
Day 6: Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate and Departure
