Day 1: Marangu Gate to Mandara Hut
Your 6-day Marangu route Kilimanjaro trekking adventure begins at Marangu Gate, located at an altitude of 1,870 meters (6,135 feet). After completing registration and meeting your guide, you'll start your trek through the dense rainforest. This initial leg of the journey takes about 4–5 hours, leading you to Mandara Hut at 2,700 meters (8,858 feet). Along the way, enjoy the vibrant flora and fauna, including the playful colobus monkeys. Settle into Mandara Hut for your first night on the mountain.
Day 2: Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut
On the second day, you’ll continue your ascent from Mandara Hut to Horombo Hut. The trail takes you through the moorland zone, offering stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro's peaks. This segment of the trek takes approximately 5–6 hours, and you'll encounter unique vegetation such as giant lobelias and groundsels. Arrive at Horombo Hut, situated at 3,720 meters (12,205 feet), where you'll spend the night and enjoy the panoramic views.
Day 3: Horombo Hut Acclimatization
Day three is dedicated to acclimatization at Horombo Hut. This day is crucial for adjusting to the high altitude, significantly increasing your chances of a successful summit. You can take a short hike to Mawenzi Ridge or simply relax and enjoy the beautiful surroundings. Proper acclimatization is key to a safe and successful ascent, so take advantage of this day to rest and prepare for the challenging days ahead.
Day 4: Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut
On the fourth day, you’ll trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut, located at 4,703 meters (15,430 feet). The landscape becomes more barren, with sparse vegetation and striking views of the peaks. Upon reaching Kibo Hut, you'll prepare for the final ascent to the summit. Rest well and hydrate, as the most challenging part of the trek begins at midnight.
Day 5: Kibo Hut to Summit and Back to Horombo Hut
Day five is the highlight of your 6-day Marangu Route Kilimanjaro trekking adventure. You'll start the final ascent to the summit around midnight, aiming to reach Uhuru Peak at sunrise. The trail is steep and demanding, but the reward is worth the effort. After approximately 6–8 hours, you’ll reach Uhuru Peak at 5,895 meters (19,341 feet), the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement and take in the stunning views before descending back to Kibo Hut for a short rest. Continue down to Horombo Hut for your final night on the mountain.
Day 6: Horombo Hut to Marangu Gate
The final day of your trek involves descending from Horombo Hut back to Marangu Gate. This 5 to 6-hour trek takes you through the moorland and rainforest zones once more, offering a chance to reflect on your incredible journey. Upon reaching Marangu Gate, you’ll receive your summit certificate, celebrating your successful climb. Transport will be waiting to take you back to your hotel in Arusha or Moshi, where you can relax and celebrate your achievement.
