The first day of the trek is a relatively easy hike through lush rainforest, with a chance to spot black and white colobus monkeys. After about 4-5 hours of hiking, you'll arrive at Mandara Hut, where you'll spend the night.

After breakfast, you'll continue your ascent, leaving the rainforest behind and entering the heath and moorland zone. Horombo Hut is situated at an altitude of 3,720 meters (12,200 feet) and is your resting place for the night.

The terrain is mostly rocky and the air is thin, so you'll need to pace yourself and take frequent breaks. When you reach Kibo Hut, you'll have an early dinner and get some rest, as you'll be waking up at midnight for the final push to the summit.

At around midnight, you'll be woken up with hot drinks and a light breakfast. You'll start your climb to the summit, Uhuru Peak, at 1am. You'll reach Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa, at around 6-7am, where you'll take photos and enjoy the moment. You'll then begin your descent, passing by Kibo Hut and continuing to Horombo Hut, where you'll spend your final night on the mountain.
